What about the middle men

Published

i just took my test today and from reading a couple of threads i dont expect my results to show up anytime soon( "California lags")

well anyways i keep on hearing about the magical 75 and 265. my question is what about the guys in the middle....i stopped around 175...from what i read on here all of them caught in the middle have passed...my theory is that people in the middle pass because they have about 50-80 questions left to bring there score up right....u guys understand what im saying?

i'm just tryin to get my hope up cuz i feel like i failed...which is normal i hear...but sounds good right?

I agree with you another girl I know passed at 215 questions so I beleive you passed. Just be patient and know that others are waiting with you such as myself I just took mine today and can barely sleep. I have to work in the morning to keep myself occupied so I won't keep acting like a stalker on BON website so keep in touch and let's pray for each other.

Guys. I took mineon tuesday. I am scared to death. I pray I pass... Please lets pray for one another

I promise I am not trying to burst anyones bubble here, but there is no magical number when it comes to the NCLEX. You can pass and Fail at 75, and also at 265. You can pass at 119, or fail at 119.

It is all up to the computer how many questions you get. This is a Computerized Adaptive Test, or a CAT test. Depending on the answer you gave, whether or not it was correct, the next question will reflect a level of difficulty that is either harder if you got the previous question right, or easier if you got the previous question wrong.

It is not necesarily true that if your last question lands between say 100 and 200, that you automatically passed. The computer will keep going until it can decide, with 95% accuracy, whether or not you have passed or failed. If it needs to take you to 200 questions for this, it will.

It can deteremine that @ 200 that either yes, this person knows what they are doing, or no, they really dont and giving more questions to bring up a score is not going to help them, so lets end this here.

I'm not trying to get you guys down, but its best to know how the NCLEX works, because it has NOTHING to do with the number of questions you get.

I hope you all did excellent and passed your NCLEX, I know how stressful of a time it can be waiting.

I agree with MeghanRN. There is no magic number on NCLEX. Like she pointed out, the computer will keep spitting out questions until you answer enough to either fail or pass.

However, I understand what the OP is saying. I had 166 questions and passed. I let my test anxiety get the best of me early on, but then re-focused my energies. I'd heard so much about passing at 75 (but you can also fail which people don't point out) that going past 75 was extremely stressful. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT NUMBER YOU GET!! Only that you pass.

Nobody grades this thing, thank goodness. It's not like the GRE, scored and used as a competitive measure for grad school. No employer is going to ask me how many questions I took on NCLEX. All they want to know is do I have a license in good standing?

Good luck, and let us know how you did. I totally understand the anxiety before getting your results because I was there only last week and I also had a "middle" number.

Best wishes

Meghan has given a good explanation. There is no score. It is a pass or fail decision. You can pass or fail at any number within the range (85-205 for PN and 75-265 for RN). I'm sorry you have to wait. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

i know im just tryin to vent but....statistically i have not seen anyone fail between 100-200....there is so many threads about the 75 and 265, i was just tryin to speak out and help those who are like me caught in the middle...i just want to know if anyone knows who failed in middle of the test not close to 75 or 265...the middle area ya know, where u still have a good amount of questions left...just tryin to see the odds of me passing....

PS: im in CA so i got some time before i get my results...

Hi Jonjon8,

I understand how frustrated you are. Believe me, I felt like a lunatic for the 48hours after the test and before I found out on Pearsonvue's website.

Like I said previously on this board, I had 166 questions and passed!! Yes, I do remember seeing a post from someone on this board about failing with 165 questions. IMHO, however, more people pass than fail in the middle numbers. So that is the good news. The bad news is, nobody can give you the assurance you're looking for right now.

I'm sure by now you've read how NCLEX works, and how people can pass/fail at any given number. How difficult were your questions? That can be another way to maybe get some reassurance you passed. The more difficult the question, the better. And I've heard lots of prioritization questions is good, too.

Bottom line? You won't know until you receive your results. Unfortunately, nobody here can say with any certainty whether you passed or failed. I know you're probably looking for reassurance, and believe me, I was too. Keep the faith and think positive thoughts. Until you hear differently, tell yourself you passed. Why not? You probably did and no sense crying over nothing.

Best wishes and please let us know when you pass!

well im just tryin to control my anxiety...i had a lot of priority questions...unfortunally CA doesnt participate in pearsonvue results...have to wait for someone to manually recheck my exam then post it...heard i takes a while....

I wish you the best of luck. Trust me numbers mean nothing when it comes to NCLEX.

Johari :)
