What should I do?

I am currently enrolled at the University of Toledo and doing my prerequisites to get into MCO. I was going to get my BSN but I have really started thinking about getting my Associates. I know that I am going to get my Bachelors and then my Masters in Nursing. I wanted opinions on what I should do. I have a daughter and my parents have guardianship of her until I finish school. This is one of the reasons why I am thinking strongly about the associates program. What can I do with an Associate's degree. I know that with a Bachelor's I can hold teaching positions and supervisor positions. I also wanted to know what would be the protocol for me to become an RN once I have obtained my Associates degree and would I be considered an LPN since I have my Associates degree. I meet with my advisor next week to switch my major. :)

With an associates, you'd be considered an RN (when you pass the NCLEX, that is). BSN will get you into management, etc, but just by being an RN (no matter how you get there) you'll be able to work as an RN in hospitals, clinics, etc, etc, etc.

I'm not sure what you're asking, really. Is it the amount of time you're concerned about? Sometimes getting an Associates is faster, but at many colleges there is a wait list before entering the nursing program, so in effect, it may take you 3-4 years to get that ADN, which is close to what it would take to get the BSN.

If it's a money issue, the ADN may be a bit less expensive, since many community colleges are much less expensive than 4-year universities.

Thanks Amy,

I have a meeting with my new advisor next week to discuss my courses for my associates degree. I was not sure if I could still become an RN with an Associates degree. That was my main concern. I did some research after posting last night and got all the answers I was looking for. Thanks for your input though.

:D

You can do alot with an associates degree. Sounds like you want your dtr back and that may be the fastest way/or should I say the least amount of time.
