I graduated in 2008 and planned on working, but my husband was deployed to Iraq. I took the year off because we have four children and were stationed out of state with no family. Now I am in Maryland and the hubby will be back in Oct. I have started to look for a job and got my first regret email. The email stated because I graduated more that 6 months ago I don't qualify for the new graduate internship.....My question is, should I address the reason I have not worked in my cover letter and if so how should I word it?

Certainly couldn't hurt is my opinion. I wish you the best.

I would. If my hubby were going off to war and I had 4 kids, I'd definitely take time off to care for my family first.

yes definitely mention that in a cover letter. give the potential employer a small history of you! why you chose nursing, how it will benefit your family, but you had to put it on hold, now you're ready to start, etc etc. strengths, clinical experiences that will be useful in this job. Give them something that will make you stand out in their memory!
Good luck!
