What should I start with?

Hey everyone my name is Drew (male) and I want to go into the nursing field! I have always wanted to persue nursing and finally told my parents I do not want to be an IT major. Unfortunatly I am going to be a senior and need to graduate with the IT degree. Once I graduate I want to start working on my nursing degree. I already have some of the gen-ed courses completed from the degree I am working on now. I was wondering where should I start? What degree I should get? Should I get my associates RN or go straight for a BSN? Or start at a CC and get my associates then do a BSN program. What's the best way to go!?!?!?

    I would say since you already have a lot of the prereqs done might as well get a BSN. Keep in mind there are often waiting lists for nursing programs. You are lucky to have an additional degree to fall back in case nursing burns you out.

    I would look for a 2nd degree BSN program in your area, or see if you can transfer into a 4-year program as a 3rd year student. That is what I'm doing. Although you'll find an ADN a lot cheaper than a BSN, it makes more sense to go straight to BSN, IMO. Most hospitals in my area are beginning to require a BSN for nursing positions. You don't want to get an ADN and then have to go back for a BSN.

    If you can before you graduate, try to knock out as many prereqs as you can: Micro, Chem, A&P I, A&P II, Nutrition, Developmental Psych, etc. You can also take them at a CC if you're on the cusp of graduating. Tuition there is probably cheaper than your 4-year school.

    Look for a state school where you can get a BSN at a lower cost. You might also consider getting a job as a CNA where you could then go for your BSN and have them pay a portion of your tuition.

    Nothing is wrong with IT. I am good at IT. I would want to do Business Intelligence and go to meeting and be active. When I was told I would be a progammer and sitbehind a desk I knew I wanted to finally eprsue what I knew I would love.

    Sitting behind a desk all day, for one. Of course, I'm speaking as a 16-year veteran of IT...

    What's wrong with any profession? Nothing, really. They're just different. And the OP stated that his heart is in nursing and not IT.
