What are some easier nursing programs to get into?

Published

I know there is no "easy" nursing program to get into. I understand they are all impacted now a days and highly competitive. But I was wondering what are some colleges (CSU preferably) that aren't as high up there as others when it comes to competitiveness. I currently attend Chico State and plan to apply for Spring 2014!

I would look into a private school. Those are pretty easy, you just need to be able to acquire a $130,000 loan and pass an entrance exam. The CSU's are ridiculously competitive, I believe the average is a 3.9 in my area for consideration. I'm currently in an ADN program and plan on going the RN-BSN route after graduation.

there are some easier schools out there, but be warned, many of the "easier" schools may not prepare you nearly as much for the NCLEX as a tougher school would do. on another note, some easier schools may not be accredited with the NLN or NAC, which means you wont be able to get an MSN without redoing your entire BSN.

all of the CSU's are extremely impacted...your best option might be a private school. Try Mount St. Mary's

You can also try Oklahoma City University...

I want to stay in CA and in the CSU system. So any CSU school suggestions? I've been ooking into Stanislaus and Channel Island's programs.

None in the CSU program. You generally need at least a 3.7 to get accepted.

You could consider a private university, but their NCLEX pass rates are lower than the CSUs.

You can also look at doing a community college (I saw your other post about that), and then do an RN-BSN program if your grades aren't competitive. But keep your grades up in your nursing program.

Regardless of which path you choose, cast a wide net. Apply to as many programs as you would possibly consider attending (like, 10+ if your grades have you worried).

Sorry, but this is terrible advice. Loans aren't free money; they have to be paid back, whether or not you have a job. The general rule is not to take out more in loans than you would anticipate making in one year. It would be very difficult for a new grad, even with a BSN, to make 130K in one year. Don't make the mistake some have made here and become burdened with loans. You have to have money to support your life, too.

Did you mean you're applying to chico's fall program? I start for the spring program on Tuesday, and I don't feel like it was too tough to get in.

All the CSU nursing programs are super hard to get into. Apply to as many as you can to increase your chances. If you don't get in, apply to CC's and then bridge to BSN :)
