What are my chances?

I doubt you would have any problem getting into a BSN program. From my experience, and from what I have seen, it is usually the ADN programs that require a high GPA and a high ACT score. The only reason you wouldn't get into a BSN program is if the school is limited to how many nursing students they can take, but most don't start any actual nursing classes until their junior (3rd) year anyway. Since the ADN programs start nursing classes right away, they generally want the highest scores. For instance, my own college requires a 24 on the ACT, they won't accept SAT scores, for the ADN program. The same college only requires a 16 ACT score for their BSN program. The same school considers an 83 to be a F in the ADN program, but a 70 is passing in the BSN program. Anyway, I doubt you will have a problem.

My BSN program was more competitive than the ADN programs in the area - the year before I got in, nobody under a 3.8 was accepted because the applicant pool was so good. Honestly, it just depends on who all is applying that year and what their GPAs look like. Getting in to nursing school is kind of a crap shoot if your GPA is borderline.

That being said, if you are making straight As in your prerequisites, it works in your favor. I had an overall 3.2-something when I got in (same reason as you - I goofed off my first degree), but a 4.0 on everything that I took when I reapplied. I think they counted me as a 4.0 student and not a 3.2 student. I knew people with 3.5s that didn't get in the year that I did.

I'm making straight A's now, but like I said I'm repairing that monstrosity of a GPA that I had years ago. The guidance lady at that college that I hope to attend told me that my GPA was competitive but I can't help but feel she was just being nice. I'm just hoping that my grades from this current semester will be posted in time so that I actually have a fighting chance.

I guess I was lucky I'm in last semester of asn and I had a 3.0 when I got in. Our entrance was based on our a and p and a few other classes and then our teas. Teas being the biggest part I scored in the high 80s on it and got in. Glad it wasn't all dependent on gpa. I'm one of the top in my class. Gpa isn't everything.
