Weekend program pros vs cons

I currently work every Wednesday through Saturday night from 11pm to 7am. I am contemplating switching to a weekend program where I would work every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7pm- 7am. However, with the weekend program, I would only be allowed to take off 4 weekends per year. But it's an $11 an hour raise. Is it worth it?

No one can really answer this but you..

kids.. sports.. significant others schedule.. how bad to you need the money (that's an extra $20k if you haven't done the math yet).

There's definitely things to consider with weekend program depending on your personal life. Weekend program doesn't work for everyone. That being said, I have worked weekend program for 11 years. My weekend program is the same with 4 weekends off/year. Some pros for me are the higher pay, more days off during the week, the same benefits as working 40 hours/week, less interaction with management, and it just works better for me with my personal life overall. There are times that I miss events working weekends, but I also have an excuse for when there is something on a weekend I don't feel like attending. ?

I LOVE working weekends. Double shifts Saturday and Sunday with full benefits, and five straight days off.  I homeschool my son while my husband works M-F. It's also much less crowded during the week when I'm running errands etc.

I would say it depends on your family situation. If you have kids, or have other family you visit often, I would think it would be very difficult to do anything together when most people are only going to be free during the week in the evenings.

Be careful of the fine print! The last hospital I worked at that had that deal allowed for a maximum of 3 call outs in a set period for any reason AT ALL.  You couldn't schedule annual leave on a weekend or call out sick. Once you hit 3 you still had the same schedule but without the extra pay!

I did 7p-7a weekends years, then switched to 7a-7p for 8 months, while I was in school to get my RN. It was very nice, but I couldn't go back to working every single weekend again. I miss my family and it's so hard to see them when they only have weekends off.

Just something to think about.
