Waitlisted...again, options?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

For the second semester in a row I have been waitlisted by my local nursing college. I don't know what to do. The first time I didn't get in off of it and I have a feeling my chances aren't that great this time either.

My grades are pretty good. Nothing below a B. And I only had a few of those. I'm finishing all of my gen eds this semester so I don't know what I'll do if I don't get in this time. I can't retake anything. I know of people who got in with grades decently less impressive than mine. And some of the classes I have taken are more than what is required. The only difference is our gender, and I'd hope that idea isn't even an issue.

I e-mailed the admissions counselor and her reply was entirely unhelpful. She merely parroted the letter the college sent, like I didn't read it or something.

I asked her if I could list hospital volunteering somewhere, send in letters of reccomendation or have an interview. She said nothing about them.

Before I decided to go into nursing, I had already been accepted to some great schools. I was accepted into a top 50 national university. I am a licensed EMT. But now I can't even get into the nursing college in my hometown?

Any advice? It's very frustrating. It wreaks havoc on my self-esteem and also makes me worry about my financial aid.

Can you apply to another nursing program at another school? You would probably increase your chances if you expanded your school choices. May not be ideal but it's something to consider if you are just being wait listed year after year. At some point you have to move with your life, no?

Try another school. Believe me I had to move to Puerto Rico since it was the only place where I got accepted ( didnt do so great my first 2 yrs of college). It was a BIG sacrifice but I'm go glad I did it!

Specializes in SNF, 2 year s hospital.

Apply everywhere!!! I was almost at my breaking point and was accepted. I'm driving 45mins to school but its better than waiting years to get into a program! What area do you live near?
