I live in Southern California. When I first decided that I wanted to go back to school for nursing, I applied at the local community college with the intention of starting my prerequisites. It was so full, I couldn't even get into a basic class (eng 101, etc.). The following semester, I applied at 5 community colleges. Still, I could not secure even one class. I did this for another 3 semesters and still could not get a class - not even for pottery or photography.
Where I live, if you can secure any kind of class for a semester (as a new student) then you will have a higher priority for the following semester - so on and so forth. The people with priority have earlier registration dates, so they get all the classes. I literally wasted 2 years thinking I could get into a class at a community college....not in So. Cal!! I ended up at a private university and took out loans for tuition because it was my ONLY option. I'm glad I did it because I was able to knock out all of my classes very quickly.
I've now applied to a few nursing programs and none of them use a waitlist - they admit students based on the point system (GPA, teas score, experience, second language, etc..). I think there are some "waitlist" schools here, but I chose not to put myself through that torture. I've met a couple of girls who were magically picked in a lottery for one or two of their pre-req's. No thanks. Three of the girls I had classes with at my school (who were ahead of me) have recently been accepted into bsn programs at private and state schools - all based on their grades/gpa.
Idk I would never move to Cali before having RN experience. I just hear all the time about how hard it is to find a job there bc it's so over saturated with new grads there. But then again it's like that in a lot of places too
I hear ya....I'm a native so it'll be my only option. I can't leave the state because of family commitments. I think it just depends on who you ask. I know people who had no problem getting a job, while others had to search for many months or even a year before finding one. I was once acquainted with a girl who couldn't find a job for almost 2 years, but I think it may have been her head-to-toe tattoos. It's tough everywhere.

How long is your school's wait list or if you were wait listed how long did you have to wait?
