Vivitrol......

We have just started using the new injectible medication Vivitrol (Naltrexone) in our outpatient clinic, and I'd like to hear from anyone with experience giving or using this medication. Thank you.

vivitrol is a new im med that is used to control the craving for etoh. i have only had to inject it one time but it was extremly thick almost like ativan. use a 20 guage 2" needle to inject it deep into the dorsogluteal muscle. i have heard good things about it but not real sure about effectiveness. hope i have helped a little.

Thank you. My understanding is that it counteracts the effects of ETOH, but does not control the cravings. The injection came with its own needles. It is very thick and took longer to mix up than the instructions suggested.

Do you give it often?
