Okay, another question!! I recently came across a posting for a vision center that is looking for a nurse. I guess they do lasik there and the RN is responsible for running the office (sounds pretty typical, medical office stuff), pt education, assisting with procedures, including the lazer procedures, etc. Anyone have experience in an office like this? I'm tempted to apply because it seems kind of interesting, but I don't know if it would get boring or anyhting. I never really thought of RNs working with vision, except maybe occular surgeries. Fill me in, what did you think of it if you did it?

I'd imagine there would be a lot of on the job training. I work for a state DOT and I have to make policy and case manage progressive eye disease cases. I had to do some serious work on my own to get up to speed on eye and vision stuff. I went back through my nursing school notes; we had plenty of content but you just don't focus on it much in most nursing practice.
I called my local ophthalmological organization and they said almost none of them have RNs on staff. So, it is an interesting role.
That's what I thought, too! At first, I was like yeah, right...but then I realized that might be kind of a unique opportunity...
