Vanderbilt University Nurse Residency Program

Published

Hey Guys-

I was just curious if anyone has had experience with VUMC Nurse Residency Program? I am going down to interview this month. I am from Minnesota so I am not very familiar with the area or the hospital, other than it being a very nice hospital. From what I have seen online, it looks pretty impressive. Is anyone familiar with their program or the hospital in general? I am also worried about moving so far away and not knowing anyone there...but it seems like maybe a lot of the Nurse Residents are in the same boat? Any thoughts you have about the program or hospital would be appreciated! Thanks.

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Moved to TN Nurses forum where I think you will get more responses from TN nurses.

Nashville is a great city and Vanderbilt is an impressive facility. The weather in TN is milder than that of MN. Hope you enjoy your visit.

I'm in the same boat as you! I'm interviewing next month for the vanderbilt nurse residency. What track are you interviewing for? I'm from california and, if offered a position, would be moving to new city without knowing anyone as well. I'm excited at the thought of a new adventure in a new city :)

I've never been to vandy but have only heard good things about the nurse residency program. I'm excited to learn more about the residency/vanderbilt/nashville when I visit next month for the interview.

Awesome Gastro! I am interviewing for the Adult Critical Care Track. I had a few friends also apply from Mn and I was the only one that got an interview. My professors have suggested that if you got an interview, you already have beaten out a lot of candidates! Like you, I would look forward to a new city and thus a new challenge. What track are you interviewing for?

I'm interviewing for the psych track! I'm curious how many interviews they are conducting vs. how many spots are available? When is your interview?

Good luck to everyone that got an interview! I would have loved to be a part of Vanderbilt's Children's Hospital!

Hope your upcoming interviews gets you the job offer soon!

Hey! I'm from NJ. I interview February 14th and I'm not really sure how it went. lol. It was my first Skype interview and there were a couple of hiccups in the connection. I interviewed for the Peds Track. How did your interviews go? I can't wait for April. I know we won't here from Vanderbilt until then, but I still check my email all the time.

Good luck to everyone!

Congrats on your interviews! I work at Vandy. We are on a hiring freeze right now, so many departments aren't hiring as many..if any at all. I work in Women's Health, and I believe we "opened" the app process up just so we could hire one of our own. To my knowledge she is the only person getting a spot in our dept. A friend of mine will graduate in May, and she interviewed for the psych track. The hiring freeze will affect each dept differently. If their staff is low they will hire more.

Good luck!

Any one got interview for vandy perioperative internship? Just wondering how many applicants got interviewed for this one and how did the interview went for you?

Does anyone know of any other nursing residency programs in/near Nashville? I graduate in May 2013..but starting the Winter 2013 Vandy's applicants all have to have BSN's...I will only have an ADN. Breaks my heart...I've been planning on applying for quite a while now ...so I'm trying to find other programs that I can apply to. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that Centennial and Northcrest (in Springfield) have periodic new grad programs. Good luck!
