I know that the VA covers all providers , but I am concerned about not having a personal policy. I still have mine. I was wondering what other VA NPs think.

When I've applied for VA positions in recent years, there is a place on the application for all RNs, NPs, etc., that specifically asks for info about your personal insurance coverage. I don't know what their response would be if someone just said they didn't have their own coverage (if that's just something interesting to talk about in the interview, or if that application goes in the "circular file").

I do not have coverage. I have been named in three suits and never asked for a deposition. I am threatened for liable several times per year, usually over narcotics or antibiotics. Oh how I LOVE being a NP! Especially a VA NP.

Government employees (state and federal) have limited liability. I have several friends practicing in the State University system here and they do not carry coverage either. They have been assured that they are well protected against litigation of any kind. I'd still want a tail, but that is after 6 years in private practice, with people threatening to sue someone in the office weekly (usually over narcotics).
Thank you, Sandnnw. Do you feel comfortable not having your own policy? I have had one for 28 years, but I wasn't with the VA then. My policy is coming up for renewal. Thanks for your help.
Blue Devil-my malpractice company says I am covered, as far as a tail policy goes. Thanks for your input.
