Using only the textbooks to study

I am sitting here with my textbook that just came in the mail, and the free content guide from EC, and then the 101study notes for the topic, and I am kind of overwhelmed. I can't get in the groove of studying with so many resources! I think I want to just use the textbook, with the content guide as a general "point me in the right direction". DId anyone else find it distracting to have so much info, and ended up just reading the textbook?

I found the textbooks distracting....and intimidating, and stuck with Study Group 101 and Lisa Arends notes. I can even take the notes to work without hauling around heavy books. I also use the Excelsior Practice exams to point me in the right direction for studying. The notes make it easier to study what you need to know and skip all of the other stuff the textbooks include. But you have to see what studying resource works for you. By the way, which exam are you studying for?

I also did not use the texts much. Too time consuming to read every word. Many people pass the exams by only using one set of notes. If you want to cover everything, then read and study the texts first, followed by using the notes. Another good source is http://www.flashcardexchange.com.

ok cool. I'm just afraid I'll miss something using the notes only. But I guess that is what they are for! Just hitting the high points. Maybe I'll try just the notes. I am studying for A and P, which I thought i loved! until I started in on the cells and tissue types and isotopes. Booo-ring!

thanks for the replies

Make sure you follow the Excelsior content guide and highlight the areas on the notes that are listed on the content guide. Then, if something is not mentioned in the notes that is listed on the content guide, you can use your book to get the info. Also the books are good for clarification. It took a few exams for me to figure out what studying technique worked for me. Good luck on your studies and passing your A&P exam!
