what to use to study for NCLEX RN again?

It's a sad day for me I just found out I failed the RN for the first time. I got between 80 and 90 questions. Last time i studied KAplan, Davis, Mcgraw and some other book and cd I can't remeber the name of.

So now what should I study? I'm seriously in disbelief cause I took my PN boards after being out of school for 4 months and not opening a book once. I seriously think it may have been excelsior since I opted for that versus traditional nursing school. Their passing rate was 86% whereas my pn school was 99.8%

I alreayd re-registered I'm just waiting for my ATT, does anyone know how long it takes to get it the second time aorund?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Hey, don't feel bad we can do this, i'm taking my nclex in april 27th I Heared exam cram is good book..you should try that...good luck !!

Sorry for your disappointment, LaMorLPN. I'm not sure how long it takes for another ATI. In my state the ATI was good for 3 attempts so all I had to do was fork over $200 to PearsonVue and schedule my test. I'd suggest checking out my post under "long time lurker, first time poster" for study materials, prayers, and overall motivation to go in headstrong on your next (and last) attempt at NCLEX.

Rats, I meant ATT!!!

I did look at your post over there. Thank you for the advice I did the kaplan book and CD, I also had davis which I didn't like. I am a practicing catholic that goes to mass nearly 5 times a week and prays daily :) but thank you for the prayers

I'll keep you in my prayers LaMorLPN, I am starting to say the rosary for the rest of lent. This will help me keep saying it since I stopped for some time now. Have you tried saying a novena or do perpetual adoration?

Your in my prayers LaMorLPN. I started using Saunders. It's a great book for content. I've also heard LaCharity is a MUST.

We can do it!!!

God Bless

Okay, you really need to flush that attitude. You are NOT a loser! You are intelligent! You graduated from school, right? I graduated with a 3.82 and it still took me 3 attempts to pass NCLEX...2 years later. This test has zero bearing on what kind of nurse you're going to be. It's just a hurdle that must be passed in order to practice. It's okay to have a little anxiety. The silver lining is that you've seen the test now; you know what to expect. It's impossible to know everything. You have to go in with a positive attitude; if you go in feeling like a loser or not feeling prepared, guess what? You'll fail again! If you go in with your head held high, shoulders back, and saying to yourself "I WILL PASS," guess what? You'll pass!

You have to have core nursing knowledge and the ability to apply it, but those mean nothing unless you attack NCLEX with a kick-ass attitude. The NCLEX does not control you...YOU CONTROL THE NCLEX!

By the way, if you feel you need an online course, do it. Lots of people are visual/auditory learners. Question books worked fine for me...but that's me. You have to find what's comfortable for you.

Sorry to hear you didn't pass. You will pass the next time, just keep studying and keep faith in God. I know this is off the topic but I was thinking of getting my Rn through Excelsior, can you tell me a little bit about the program, how long did it take you to finish? Also I suggest studying Saunders, Incredibly made easy, and Lacharity. Thanks for any advise in advance, God bless!

I agree with uaefan totally!! You HAVE to stay positive. Thinking about failure is not a choice. You made it through nursing school. Don't think you are a failure. YOU ARE NOT! I failed my first time and sure it was emotional experience for me for a week, but GET UP and start being positive. What makes you happy? Do you want to be a nurse? WANT IT AND KEEP POSITIVES AROUND YOU!! I keep a post it note in my bathroom every night. It all says different things like "I will be a great nurse," "I will PASS the NCLEX," "The NCLEX is just a test,"

You will do great! UAEFAN said to study what feels comfortable for you. You can do it!!

I honestly would not recommend excelsior at all! I had to teach myself everything and so I of course took short cuts to get done quicker, which lead me to not learning the content, which I believe lead me to failing the boards. Like I said earlier I was out of LPN school for 4 months when I took the PN boards and didnt open a book once.

And if you want to go to EC...

you have to take 7 or 8 nursing classes depending if you're an LPN etc. You get a content guide that tells you what textbooks to buy, and gives you a syllabus. You can take as long as you want to take the exam for the class. Each class has 1 exit exam that is it. The syllabus tells you chapters but not pages and give you what you need to know but not where to find it. You're basically paying them for credits. Pearsob vue testing centers the tests are $235 each, 180 questions. PM me if u have more questions.
