UofA BSN Fall 2019

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I've been looking everywhere for a University of Arizona BSN thread and haven't been able to find one, so I'm making this! Any applicants for UofA's BSN or BSN-IH program for Fall 2019??

Greetings! I have applied for both ?

I also applied for both as well, but I marked my preference as the BSN-IH! Did you receive an interview? I got my interview email on Friday ?

Yessiree I did! I just got an email back today!

I got into the BSN-IH program in Gilbert!! Have you heard back yet???

I did around like 4:00, I forgot to check my email, but such a great surprise! Now time to find a place to live haha. Congratulations! ?

I heard about this new program in Gilbert. By chance what were your GPA's and HESI score? I knew this program is relatively new. I want to apply for Spring 2020 since I still have to take some pre-req courses. Also how was the interview and what did it entail?

I applied with a 3.45 cumulative GPA, 3.91 prerequisite GPA, and a 95.5 HESI and got in. I applied last semester as well with similar stats (cum GPA a little lower, pre-req GPA the same) and interviewed, but I didn't make it in. Having the extra 24 seats with the addition of the Gilbert program is what allowed me to get in this semester, I believe.

The interview is fairly easy! The questions are pretty general:

- tell me about yourself / why are you interested in nursing / what is something about yourself that you want the College of Nursing to know

- behavioral questions such as: if you had a friend in the program that was cheating on exams / abusing drugs / abusing alcohol, etc. how would you address the problem?

- what are the most important attributes a nurse should possess and why?

- tell us about some experiences you've had that have exposed you to the type of diverse populations that you will encounter in nursing

You will be interviewing with one other student and two CON faculty. They will take turns asking you and your partner questions. Just be yourself and be confident in your experiences and abilities! I based my answers largely on my experiences & beliefs and how this will contribute to optimal patient care. Good luck!!

Hello! If I'm being honest I have no idea what my cumulative GPA was (I know that's kinda bad lol), but my prerequisite GPA was 3.69 and my HESI score was an 88. The interview was lax and easy! Just remember to go in and be yourself! If you're heart is in the right place, you will do just fine ?My questions were:

1) Why is nursing for you?

2) What different experiences have you had that allowed you to work with diverse populations? (Maybe for this question tie it back to how working with diverse populations benefit nurses and how the experience can be applied)

3) If you catch a peer cheating on a nursing school exam what would you do?

4) You are given two major assignments that have the same due date, how will you handle this?

As mentioned previously, you will be interviewing with another person, but before the interview you will get a chance to talk with them to get to know them briefly. Be very detailed, its better to say more than less. Best of luck and blessings to you!

Congrats on the both of you getting in! Thank you so much for your responses. I am planning to take my hesi the end of this semester. Good luck to me. I do t think I’ll ever get around 90 on the hesi but worth a try. We’ll see....

You'll do great!! The HESI carries the same weight in our admittance score as our cumulative GPA (20%). So if you don't have the greatest GPA or HESI score, you can offset that with doing better in one of the other areas ? Best wishes!!

Thank you so much for the info and positivity. It means a lot!
