UK nursing

I was wondering on traveling nursing in London. my previous experince includes 2 yrs of ER and 2 yrs of MICU. I was looking to work in the UK for about 6 months or maybe more. I have never traveled overseas before and am looking for a lot of information.. I hate to say it but i am basically clueless here and looking for any helpful information.

so, my questions are

1. are there any US ICU or ER nurses out there who have worked in Great Britian? i have heard there are differences in drugs, calculations, and no resp therapist for vents? how I might prepare myself or is it a big culture shock?

2. I am looking for any suggestions on any good reliable agencies or suggestions on how i can look how reputable they are.

3. I would love any information on the logistics of the move.. renting the house, what to take, how much money they pay, ect..

4. would i save any money or will it all go to renting ?

5. do they leave time for extra travel oportunites?

6. easier to find a ER or ICU job? pay difference?

Would appreciate any input or information

there is no such thing as travel nursing in the uk, you should post on the uk site for more info. there are companys who will get you there, but you have to go through immigration the same as uk nurses coming to the us.

lots of differences over there, and as you rightly say, no respiratory therapists, but docs and anaesthetists who do the job, just the same.

it would be an interesting experience for any us nurse to go there and work and as i am from the uk, would say that you would enjoy it.

the brits love nurses form overseas.

ever heard of continental travelnurse?

If you are really interested in traveling to UK get in touch with the Nursing Midwifery Council in the UK and find out what their requirements for licensure are like. I have been working with them since May of 2005 and still do not have a decision on my English license. The Council just keeps demanding more information on my training and references. So if you really want to go get started with them. Their website is www.nmc-uk.com. Good luck- I have family contacts in the UK and travel there every2 years for an extended period of time and would love the chance to return there to live.
