UK Nurses moving to the US?

Published

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer some advice.

I'm currently doing a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing, in this course although it is predominantly Adult Nursing we do come across paediatrics, mental health and learning disabilities which all as to be signed off throughout our three year.

Anyway I have one year to go and I am currently hoping to get a 2.1 or a first ( I guess depending how the third year goes).

Once qualified I would like to make the move to the US in TN as I am currently dating and have been for the last year an American Citizen and he lives in TN. I know I would need to take the NCLEX is there anything else I would need to do in relation to Visas and nursing overseas. Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Rachel

What visa are you hoping to move with?

Make sure that both clinical and theory hours are signed off when it comes to your transcripts in Adult, Paeds, Obstetrics and Mental Health. As you do not mention Obstetrics in your post that may be an issue for you as it will be required

You would have to do visascreen also.

Unless they get married and he is already a USC or has PR

Hello everyone,

Sorry to to bump this thread, but I'm looking for some advice. I'm married to a USC. I'm a Degree educated UK adult nurse currently working in a UK hospital in Recovery. I'm trying to find a school in MD, Annapolis, specifically, that would enable me to undertake, my missing modules - obs, paeds. I have tried several colleges without success. I have also tried to contact the MD BON to see if they are aware of any school offering this option- unfortunately I'm still waiting on a reply. If anyone could offer any advice I'd be very grateful.

Thank you very much.

Hey I do have experience with obstetrics but it depends how much experience is required? When we pass university they sign to say if we have experience in mental health, obs, peds but this all very little experience as majority is adult.

Would this be a major problem?

Your transcript needs to show clinical and theory hours in Paeds, Mental Health, Adult and Obstetrics. Each state has different requirements so you may have to contact state to see what the required hours are.

Hello there,

I really hope someone can help, please..

Does anyone happen to know the theory and clinical hours required for MD RN licensure?

I've searched for several days, on MD BON, internet, and this forum and cany find the answer anywhere.

I'm a UK trained nurse, and I know I need theory and clinical hours in: Med, Surgical, Peds, Obs, Mental Health and Gerontologic in order to get registered.

Thank you very much in advance
