UIW/UTHSCSA Spring 2020

Hi there! I haven’t seen a thread for this upcoming Spring 2020 (that includes UIW) so I decided to create one!

has anyone heard anything??

aside from receiving an email to be fingerprinted from UIW, I haven’t heard anything else.

has anybody heard any other news????

Featured Replies

I have not heard anything since the fingerprint scan either. I am so anxious about it. I did call last week and they said something about interviews and anybody accepted would know by the second week of September.

I’m anxious too!!! when I visited their office in June, they said late august-early september. I’ve been reading previous threads and I didn’t read anything about interviews... the second week of september is so far away

Finally, someone made a post for spring. I did my fingerprints about two weeks ago for UIW, and received a call today to schedule an interview for next week.

Yes! I have read and reread all the old posts prior to ours because nobody made one for Spring 2020. I just got a call for an interview as well! Good luck on yours.

Thank you! I'm so nervous! I hate interviews, but hopefully all goes well. Good luck to you as well!

Good luck to both of you, lfranco2 and aric91!!! I haven’t heard anything yet ? I wonder if they’re interviewing applicants with similar stats? did any of you find any information on previous applicant pools? UTH has this info, a lot of schools actually do... did I not search thoroughly?

if you don’t mind me asking, what are your stats? teas, overall gpa, science gpa?

mine are:

teas:85.3

ogpa:3.6

sgpa:3.4

I don’t have any certifications or licenses but I have volunteer hours with a lot of direct patient care. I’m also an out of state transfer. aaaaahh I’m so nervous!!!!

Thank you! The woman on the phone said the interview was only about 15 minutes long, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I have seen that they have called to schedule appointments for the next day. I have literally read all the threads involving UIW lol ?. Try not too worry, as your stats are pretty good and TEAS score is great!

Did you apply to UTHSCSA as well? I only applied to UIW so this is extremely nerve wracking for me.

My stats are

Overall GPA:3.9

Science GPA: 4.0

TEAS: 86

I have no experience in direct patient care ? but this is something I have my heart set on. What state are you in?

same here! that’s literally what I do with my free time ? WOW! your stats are AMAZING! awesome job! I never came across info about UIW doing interviews... just UTH since they’re doing a holistic approach, which honestly, is great for people who have average stats like mine with hands on experience. with that being said, yes! I applied to UTHSCSA as well. from what I’ve been obsessively reading for some time now (aah lol ?), admission is based on the interview (40%) and stats (60%).

I’m in Los Angeles but my family lives in San Antonio. going to school full time over here (especially for nursing) and having to still be able to support yourself (cost of living is ridiculous) is almost impossible if you don’t have a support system or a million dollars in your bank account lol. I’m in the process of applying this year and I figured I’d try out UIW and UTHSCSA so I’d have a greater opportunity of getting a 4.0 in nursing school to continue into grad school

Thank you! I couldn't have done it without my family though. I have a five-year-old that makes concentrating on schoolwork a little difficult sometimes lol. I am glad to be done with prereqs for the most part! I am still taking other random classes right now, but they are all online now. I am going to practice for my interview all weekend though because I am not very good at them! UTHSCSA will definitely look at the hands-on experience you have and any other extracurriculars. I went to a workshop they had in April and they did say that anybody who met the minimum requirements would be interviewed, so if you nail the interview you have a great chance! Have you heard anything from them?

That is so cool that you are living there! I just went to San Diego for a week earlier this month and let me tell you, I didn't want to come back! South California is gorgeous, so at least you can say you have lived there! I told my mom I want to move to San Diego sometime in the future! But you are definitely right. It always hurt to pump gas when we were there lol.

I don't know my gpas off the top of my head, but I got an 84.7 on my TEAS. I am also certified to work as a lab tech, which i did for a while before i had my daughter. Finishing my first BS next month.

My sister-in- law graduated from this program in May and said that lots of the transfers in her class had interviews. They seem to be personal interviews according to previous allnurses threads. Nervous as hell, but hoping I'll do okay.

girl, I applaud you ?? amazing stats while raising a child is not an easy task. all I’m raising is a cat and she practically takes care of herself lol ? no I haven’t heard anything from them either! the anticipation is killing me!

yes! San Diego is beautiful! have you considered being a travel nurse when you graduate? you could move/work over here for several weeks, get paid a lot of money, and explore the city when you’re not working. there’s always something crazy happening in LA. especially central near LAC-USC and in the south bay area ? and giirrrrl lol it hurts just looking at the gas prices hahaha

Congrats on your degree! You will do great! All we can do is practice answering questions and come across as genuine. I had also read that some don't get interviewed, but the admissions advisor I spoke to said everyone was going to get interviewed. Do you know if it is going to be a single person or a panel-type interview? I forgot to ask!
