UIW & UTHSCSA Fall 2019

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello peers and (hopefully) future classmates! It’s that time of year where we are all working hard to turn in our school applications for that February 1st deadline. I have anxiously read through all the previous forums similar to this so I figured I would make one for us!

I want to know:

-Where did you apply?

-What are your stats?

-What are your thoughts on the new holistic review?

-What made you want to be a nurse?

I am JoSkid I applied to UIW and UTHSCSA.

TEAs 85

Cumulative GPA:3.75

Math/Sci GPA: 3.54

Hey JoSkid!!

Your stats are awesome! I have mixed feelings about the holistic review. I appreciate that achievements/experiences are being considered as well as GPA and TEAS scores. But when filling out those sections of the app, it made we wish I had done a few more extracurriculars or volunteer hours lol. How do you feel about it?

Between UIW and UTHSCSA, whats your first choice?

Yeah, hopefully it makes for some more well rounded nurses. I appreciated the opportunity to write an essay!

My first choice is UTHSCSA!!!

I applied to both too! For the UTHSCSA essay, I wish we were able to format them and indent paragraphs...

Hi n0ell3! Thanks for your comment. I agree, that bothered me as well. How do you feel about the rest of the holistic review process?

I personally feel really good about the holistic review process. It gives applicants the opportunity to explain what they need to and show the admissions panel that we're more than just numbers! It works to our advantage and I hope for the best for everyone! How do you feel?

What sorts of hobbies, activities, etc. were you able to put down or write about? I am so interested to know about everyone's experiences!

I liked it too. From what I understand it is the first semester that they are doing it? I am interested to see if and how things change! What I appreciated most was the opportunity to write an essay. I am a mom and took my first ever college finals when my daughter was just 2 weeks old sleepless, leaky boobs, and all! Needless to say, I got a couple Bs that semester! HA! I said all that much more graciously in the essay though ;)

?! Mine was retrospective on my experience volunteering at a hospice & how I got to realizing that nursing would be the best path for me. And yeah I heard that it was their first semester doing it too, pretty sure there will be an interview portion as well. If I remember correctly, they said that everyone who meets the requirements will get one ?

I wrote my essay in a similar way! I was in a clinical rotations program in high school that really helped me solidify my decision to study nursing. I'm glad you brought up the interview, I wasn't completely sure how they would choose applicants for it. I wonder if interviews will be before or after our admissions decisions are sent out? ?

Y'all are so squared away! Is there a particular area of nursing you'd like to work in?

I think interviews will be before admission decisions are sent out. I spoke with the man who does recruiting for the Alamo colleges and he had me under the impression that it is a part of the admissions process.

Yeah it'd make sense for it to be a part of the admissions process. As for what area of nursing I'd like to work in, I want to leave it to nursing school to help me figure it out.

has anyone heard anything
