UIC req: Intro to Research Methods

Hello all,

I was looking at UIC's requirements for the entry MSN program and in addition to all the basic anatomy/physio, stats, etc requirements, they also need you to have taken an "intro to research methods" course. I'm just a tiny bit confused as to what kind of research methods they are looking for as many different areas of study can offer a course like this i.e. social research methods or science-based research methods. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I also did a semester's worth of research during my sophomore year in college and I received credit on my transcript for that. Would that be sufficient?

If not, I live in the San Francisco area. If anyone knows of where they offer such a course, it'd be greatly appreciated if you could let me know because my friend and I are in the same boat and we are desperately looking for some college - both state and city - to take it at and we haven't found anything yet. Thanks!

I think graduate schools usually offer this sort of course.

The one I had was just an overview of research people in the department were doing.

When I was filling this pre-req, I took a Social Work Research Methods course. I believe that they are wanting a social studies based class. Before you register for a course, I would ask the advisors at UIC if the course would fulfill the requirement. I sent them the course description and syllabus. Hope this helps and good luck!

When I went to their info session two years ago, they said that credit-based research experience counts towards the requirement. However, I don't know if the rules have changed since then.
