UIC Graduate Entry Program

Hi folks,

Thinking about applying to UIC's GEP program. Anybody here applied and was accepted? What were your stats?

My stats: 3.2 Overall GPA/3.5 Sci BA in Sociology. Office Manager in home health care, tech in a medical equipment co, medical assistant (no cert) in dr's office and later office manager there. Volunteering in Nursing Home around 120 hours...

From what I can tell on their website, after completing the NCLEX, you immediately start the master portion of the program. Is this correct?

Great! I'm anxiously awaiting my recommenders' submission of their LORs. Trying not to be that annoying person who emails them every few days to make sure they haven't forgotten... :-/

For the goal statement do you know if the prompt needs to be in the layout that they address the items in?

For example:

  1. --Purpose in applying for graduate study
--Choice of specialty, with particular focus within if applicable
    --Your future professional plans
--Describe what you have done to develop a realistic picture of the practice role you have chosen
--Any additional information on that may be useful in evaluating you for graduate study, such as working with underserved populations

Or can it be a goal statement that addresses the above items in any order?

I know that they want you to address each and every statement in the prompt.

Besides that, I think it can be in any order although I did write the statement by answering each of the statements in that particular order because it made sense to me and flowed that way.

So this thread has some conflicting information, but in the previous page, someone quotes a UIC staff member as saying our goal statement is to be 600 words but there is no minimum/suggestion on the others. Just a heads up.

that is incorrect. The goal statement has no minimum but the volunteer description essay must be 600 words. You got that reversed.

But obviously you don't want your essay to be 1000 words. I am cutting mine to around 700.

From when I asked in late December to when rain asked about a week ago, the information changed or maybe it did not change and they just weren't clear.

at the end of the day, I think as long as you answered the questions thoroughly and didn't go too over or too under "600 words" for any of the essays, you'll be fine. :)

Sittenfeld, I agree. I'm going with 600 for the goal statement since that is what is written on the website (mine is currently 592) and I will probably keep the other answers near that length. How is everyone formatting the short answer responses?

For the short answer responses are you referring to the boxes where you input your volunteer or community service activities?

That actually answers my question! I haven't done the supplemental app yet and didn't know if all the writing got submitted as one document or in chunks. Thanks!
