I submitted my app for UIC yesterday. I'm anxious for the result. So for anyone else who applied what is your GPA and your extracurricular activities? I'm a transfer student with a 3.2 GPA and I've worked at an animal hospital for 3 years. I got denied last year due to my GPA so I'm just trying to figure out my chances, and where I can improve if I get denied again. ?

Hey, I was waiting for someone to make a thread for Fall 2021! So, I'm also a transfer student with a 3.9 GPA. My volunteer experience was very limited due to COVID and I don't have any work experience. I'm also scared for my application; I hope we both get in! Are you waitlisted last year?

No, I was denied. Back then my transcripts said I had a 3.0 GPA, but when I saw everyone getting their interview calls I called to see my status. They told me I was denied because I had a 2.73 GPA and the requirements a 2.75. IDK how they calculate it. They tried to explain it but I was so confused. So I retook a few classes to raise my GPA.
Really hope I get in. I had the medical director write my letter of recommendation so I really hope that gives me a boost.

Hey! I also applied to UIC. I just got the email about mock interviews. My UIC GPA is a 3.6 but I transferred last year so my cummulative is a 3.4. I work part time as an EMT instructor and im working at the pavillion administering vaccines! I am also super nervous about interviews bc I have no idea how they work

Hi, when did you get an email? Have you already selected your interview date? I haven't received one and I am so nervous about the interview process.
Hey! I got an email yesterday. It was just for mock interviews though, not for the real thing

Hi guys! I was also waiting on someone to make a thread for Fall 2021, thank god. I’ve been so nervous!! All of you that commented so far have a really good shot at getting accepted and your GPAs look good! I submitted my application in December and UIC is my top choice!! I’m a transfer student, I have a 3.5 GPA and I just recently started working at a local hospital as a PCT. Good luck to everyone, let’s hope we all get in!

Hey guys!! I also applied for Fall 2021 as a trasfer student and I keep freaking out about the reduction of spots for this year while increased number of applicants. IDK if it's completely true though ?
I have science and Cum 4.0 GPA, honors classes completed, some research in both literature and Neuroscience, graphic design work for our literary art magazine, but unfortunately not so much of volunteering experience ? (nothing related to healthcare either). I really was trying to get more volunteering experience but my semester load (22 credits +) and Covid really did not help. Now, I regret taking so many classes in just 3 semesters and a Summer (did 84 credits ) instead of taking less and volunteer more ? I do have a CNA licence but haven't work more than a week as a CNA so I did not put it in my resume. I really do hope that some awards, my rec letters, and perhaps if I make it to the simifinalists list of JKC that could give a little boost to my application. It's my first time in US college and I'm not 100% sure how everything works.
Is anyone else a little intimidated by the interview process and a writing sample (?!!) Have any of you heard about it? I have heard you get 30 min for some short response on top of few questions you're ask during the interview. Maybe it does not sound so terrible, but I have been in US for only about 2.5 years and English is my 3rd language, so I am afraid I can mispell a lot, which ultimately can disqualify me ... What do you all think? I reached out to UIC nursing students to get some info about the interview so I can share what they shared with me.
I really do hope I can see all of you in Fall ❤️ We can do this!

Hey guys! I'm soo nervous for the interviews too, I'm assuming they might be over Zoom this year too though? I'm a transfer student, I majored for 2 years at a 4 year university in Psych and then switched to nursing and completed all my prereqs this year at community college, so I don't have volunteer experience because of Covid and the hospitals near me not allowing volunteers:( I have a 4.0 though, really strong letters of rec, and manage a pool where we are the primary responders in a lot of situations, and research experience in Psychology as well so I hope that will make up for no volunteer/medical experience LOL. @neuro_domi what did the nursing students you talked to say about the interview process? I wish I knew some people that went to UIC for nursing already, that would be so helpful! Good luck to everyone! Hope to see you all at interviews/in the Fall!

Same here ? I have 2 friends who got in and a random person I met on Reddit I’ve been talking too about the application process. He says that last year everything was still in person (late February) so 6 ppl groups would come in and answer 4-5 questions followed by a writing sample. He says he doesn’t really remember all the questions but they were like; why do you want to be a nurse, your weaknesses and why you’d be a strong candidate for UIC BSN. He also says it’s pretty intimidating because you need to respond rather quickly and the presence of other ppl (meaning your competition) does not help. What all of them say is not to learn answers of generic questions by heart, but rather reherse and modify to your true self because it stands out more than all those sample answers you could find online. The 2 friend I mentioned had 3.9 and 4.0 GPA, but they had a TON of volunteering experience. The girl with 4.0 has been volunteering for 3 years now continuously which makes me think I’m not strong enough to compete with ppl like her. The guy I’ve been talking via Reddit had 3.5 GPA and no so much volunteering but... oh boy! He did some serious shadowing experience in NY and was a research assistant at Columbia University. His name was mentioned in the research paper so that’s that ... I mean.... isn’t that annoying??? (????) jk I’m so happy for them because they sure deserve it. I just hope we all get it as well ?????? What’s more important which they all said to me: don’t be afraid to sell yourself especially if your resume isn’t just excellent. After all it’s not all about the GPA since some ppl with 4.0 do not get in (I mean really ?!!??) What matters is how attractive and special you are to them and to UIC itself. I hope that makes sense LOL
btw, did anyone call the admission office to ask if they’re doing interviews remotely or in person? I’m participating in mock interviews tomorrow from 11am -12 pm so I’ll let you know ?
