Is anyone applying for UCF at the Cocoa/Daytona campus for Spring semester 2011? I've been working at this for soooo long and I was hoping to find other people out there too for moral support!

Hello,
I will apply but I dont know if I have good chances of getting in. I'll be taking Chemistry this summer and I havent taken the TEAS yet, do you know how competitive is this program? Any info is apprecciated.
I am not sure on the competitiveness, but I'm guessing it's probably pretty competitive. I talked to an advisor last year and he told me they have 30-35 slots and over 300 applicants. I don't know how many of those are qualified applicants though. You might want to check with the advisor because I am pretty sure Chemistry has to be complete before you apply. The other sciences don't, but I think that one does. Make sure you talk to an advisor before you make any final decisions about applying and don't take my word for it! Are you aiming for Cocoa or Daytona? Good luck!!
Thank you! I was thinking Cocoa, I live in Orlando so my other options are VCC and Seminole State. Good luck to you!!!!

I'm also going to be applying to UCF/ Cocoa this summer for January admission. Does anyone know the latest scoop on how they are going to calculate the admission criteria? I've been to 3 pre-admission seminars in the last year and each time they describe different processes for determining who will be admitted and who will not. Two fellow students have met with advisors in the last month and have been told another different method that they are going to use. Here's what they were told: For each of the pre-requisite classes, you will get points based on the grade you got and how many credits the course was worth. If you only have completed the 7 courses that the catalog require, then you will be at a disadvantage to people who have completed all 9 by the July 1 application deadline. The TEAS test will only be pass or fail. As long as you get the minimum grade which is 74 or 75, you meet the requirement. So far, I haven't been able to determine how much the overall GPA will impact your admission. Has anyone heard more details about this?
You have more information that I have. I have talked to advisers over the past 2 years and all they tell me is "admission criteria." I haven't seen really anywhere what they look at for sure. BCC's program has it all spelled out exactly for you, which is very nice! I did just submit my application for the Spring start. I have all my pre reqs completed, 3.7 gpa and passed the TEAS test. I feel that is pretty competitive and if that doesn't make it then I gave it my best shot and BCC here I come! I have A's in all my pre reqs so there is nothing I could improve on, that is simply the best I could do! Good luck to you in your application and fingers double crossed we will be class mates in January!

Hi! I've applied. The deadline is July 1st for all requirements. I just did my TEAS last week, got an 84.7 (the science section was all over the place, and as far as I know, there's no geology required for any nursing r=pre-req's, so why are there geology questions on the TEAS?) I have a 3.9 pre-req GPA, but only a 3.37 overall GPA ( stuff from years ago still haunts me!) I hope there's a chance, who knows!!

Were you guys able to use a calculator for the teas test when you took if for UCF?
No calculators allowed for TEAS test. Each section is timed, and a few of the problems required some lengthy addition, but I finished in time, albeit with less than 5 minutes to spare!
Judithr How did you do on each section (if you don't mind me asking?)

I am applying to the UCF program for the Spring term as well. I am taking the TEAS test tomorrow. I wish I knew what the criteria was for entrance and the ratio of applicants to accepted students. If anyone has the information, please share!
Hi Cathkol,
How did you do on the TEAS? Talk about waiting till the last minute! I hope you did well. Well, our applications are in and all we can do now is wait for the email.
The criteria isn't too hard to figure out. The TEAS is sort of pass/fail. All you need to do is score higher than the minimum score (whatever is posted on the nursing website at UCF - I think it's around 74). If you didn't beat the minimum score then you're out of contention - if you did meet the minimum then you're rated on a scale from 0 to 100 based on your overall GPA and PreReq GPA. You can earn 50 points for your overall GPA. a 3.0 earns 0 points (that's the minimum allowable GPA) and a 4.0 earns all 50 points. A 3.1 gets 5 points, a 3.2 gets 10 points and so on. Basically, for every .02 over 3.0 you'll get a point. The second 50 points are earned from the PreReq gpa. I think the same scale applies but I don't know that for certain. He looked up my PreReq gpa and told me how many points I'd get and it seemed consistent with the overall GPA point scale.
Cocoa and Daytona each officially take 36 students each spring but unofficially they take a few extra to allow for some droppage. Last year they had approximately 400 applicants but you can bet that more than a few weren't actually qualified to apply yet.
Well good luck to us all!
