U.P. Nursing

I will graduate this December from a nursing program in south central Michigan. My husband and I are thinking of moving to the UP after graduation. I was wondering about nursing in the UP. We are specifically thinking the Marquette area. I wondering about the pay for new grads, whether they only hire new grads for Med-Surge, whether they are union, and how difficult it is to get a job there.

Thanks.

I am still a nursing student but I am from a town about an hour away from marquette. I can't tell you much about pay and such but it is a great place to live. I have job shadowed at the hospital and everyone is very nice. I think you would love it! I am currently away from home now trying to get into Michigan States Nursing program. I miss the U.P!

You could always check it out on the search engine for Marquette, MI. and look at websites for hospitals in/nearby. Sometimes pay is included in the employment section. Great to hear you like the U.P. I like to visit but SW Michigan is warmer :)

Hello,

I am from Marquette, I don't know if you found anything there yet, but wages are LOW. New grads usually start as low as $19/hour at MGH. But cost of living is also low and it is LAID BACK. I live in Chicago now and work of University of Chicago on transplant. I want to move home so bad. good luck!
