SteveNNP I'm jealous! I look forward to being somewhere with a little more variety and acuity someday. I'm in a level III with up to 50 babies. We're the largest NICU in the area and accept babies from surrounding hospitals. Babes with more complex diagnoses or requiring a higher level of care get shipped out. Recent diagnoses include:
Prematurity and sequelae (the majority of our population)
Hypoglycemia
NAS
Meconium aspiration
Pneumothorax
TTN
PPHN
Sepsis
We're currently working on getting head cooling underway -- we have the equipment but are still in the early days of policy/procedure development

The PICU forum had a cool thread where people listed the types of patients on their units. I thought it would be interesting for the NICU too. I know some NICUs get babies that come into the emergency room, some of have micropreemies, some have full terms with congenital issues, some take pre-surgery cardiac babies, etc. I'd love to know the census of your NICU!
