Hey all, new to the site just curious if anyone has applied to the nursing program at Tx State yet. It opens up fall 2010, at the moment I am in the process of preparing all the information needed for the application process. I have to say I am terrified I will not be accepted. I mean I meet all requires and will have all pre-reqs done by Fall of 2010, but I still need to do the TEAS, an essay and if I am accepted an interview. I am blundering through things getting all this done by the deadline as well as working full time and studying for my current classes my gpa is enough to get in so I am okay on that front but gosh oh gosh I am still about everything. I've been told by a couple people to take a deep breath but, you know its either the anticipation or the threat of being denied a seat out of the 100 accepted applicants that is throwing me on the edge. Anyways, I hope it all goes well I'd hate to wait another year :<.>

Took me a while to figure out exactly what "Texas State" was! I guess I lost track of what that 'San Marcos' school is now calling themselves. Back in the day, when my older sister graduated from there, it was SWTSC(Southwest Tx State col). LOL - A little trivia - it was originally the 'teachers college' that Lyndon Baines Johnson graduated from a jillion years ago. Looks like the school of nursing won't be on the main campus in San Marcus. That's a pity, it's really lovely - high on a hill overlooking the Springs and park.
But - OK (old brain tends to digress). There are some challenges associated start-up programs, but they certainly would not be enrolling any students if their accreditation status was not on target. As a student, you will undoubtedly be dealing with a lot of new instructors. Just like any other profession, teaching skills improve with experience (nuff said). On the other hand, they are more likely to incorporate more progressive ideas and trends - you won't have to deal with the "that's the way it has always been done" frustration.
Since this is a new department, their processes may not be well developed, so I would advise you to double-triple-check to make sure that all your paperwork ends up in the right file for admissions. Make friends with the (clerical) folks who are responsible for managing this process.
Best of LUCK! After you are admitted, be sure to keep us updated on how it's going with the new program.

I just posted information letting applicants know about this upcoming program...I live here in Round Rock , but because I have to move up to the Dallas area next year...I will not be able to apply to this new program.
I don't think a lot of hopefuls know about this program...if that is the case, that would make your competition less ...
I hope that you get into the program on your 1st try !

It looks like a promising program, and their website looks like it has been updated with the rubric for their admissions-point system. I am interested in applying after I graduate from UT-Austin....Is TX state's SON admissions for Fall semesters only? Anyway, good luck, and let me know how it goes! I might be asking you questions in the future! :)
I welcome the questions, I just had my interview last week I will find out this week if I am accepted I'm hopeful but, I am also not worried about rejection any questions you have are welcomed I have asked all of them so most likely will have an answer
Thanks for your help! I will be graduating this summer from UT-Austin, and am looking for a BSN program near by. I plan to apply to Texas State's SON starting this winter (along with some other programs just in case), for the Fall 2011 semester :). How did the interview go? Also, do you have any advice on preparation for the application process? I hope you get in! Best of luck!
