Trying to survive.......

hey,

I am junior at Rutgers and trying to survive my first clinical semester. I was wondering if anyone had any tips making it through this program. I feel like so much of the stuff is dry and boring. I am also looking for some words of encouragement to myself and fellow students. I am the president of my class and I am starting to feel all the pressure of school, clubs, and work. I try to do my best to help all my classmates and give them all the support they need. Unfortunately, I dont have the support for myself. PLEASE HELP!!!

the best 2 things to do are 'breathe' and 'prioritize'.

then jump in and do what needs to be done. i know the overwhelming feelings. i'm the president of our SNA and at times the extra's that comes with the title seem a bit much. that's when i step back and get what needs to be done first. then second and so on.

if you are thinking that things really are getting to be too much then i suggest you look at your ultimate goal. getting through school. ditch the things that are holding you back from that.

oh, and i wanted to say that i'm sorry for the cold shoulder you recieved initially in the general nurse forum. :rolleyes: sometimes the 'compassion' from others amazes me.

I know where you are coming from! I have the nursing curriculum, microbiology, am a class officer, work part-time and am a mom of a 3, 5, and 8 yo. The first thing I did was to get a planner and go thru all my syllabi(?) and record all pertinent info(exams, papers, practicals,etc) I then filled in all the family stuff (birthdays, kids school things) This gave me a good idea of how to plan my study time. I also bring my with me in my car whereever I go, I manage to squeeze alot of extra studying in while I am waiting for the kids to get out of school or in line at the drive thru (I do everything drive thru I can, bank, pharmacy, and yes food!) I always work on what is due first, then move on from there. I also try to plan my research so I only have to make one or two trips to the library at our hospital (it is a teaching hospital and has alot of info and journals) I use that time to do the research for everything at once. I don't know your situation but maybe these things could help.

Just wanted to send my best wishes to you and welcome you to the board.

You are ahead of me as I have not yet started my clinicals but I have heard lots of people say the first semester is boring. I think because it is a lot of "Fundamentals". I think things will get more interesting for you.
