Trying to break into dialysis

Published

Hi, everyone I have been checking the site out for awhile and find it very informative. I am new RN with 11 months ICU experience but my true career goal has been dialysis since rotating to a hemo unit during nursing school. I have applied to several positions here in the Phoenix area for dialysis RN positions with both Fresenius and Davita. But after a month I have yet to receive a single offer. All my apps have been online with a cover letter. Does anyone have any insight in how to better my chances with either of theses companies. TIA

I got tired of waiting and just called and spoke directly to the FA at the facilities. I still had to fill out an app on line but I got an interview very quickly. Or just present yourself to speak with an FA about opportunities. Worked for me.

Thanks Lacie, that was going to be my next approach since I have gotten nowhere with the recruiters. I just was not sure if that would be appropriate, but it if it worked for you, I think I will give it a try. Thankyou

I was also thinking of mailing my cover letter and resume to the facility administrators of the locations hiring. I tried calling some facilities today and had little luck catching the fa. Im sorry to vent but this is just getting a little frustrating, I feel whenever I apply online to these companys my info is just being ignored by the recruiter or whomever it goes to. The jobs I am applying for state Will Train and I have year proir ICU experience they prefer, what gives. I appologize again for venting. But will not give up on this career dream. Anyone with advice or words of encouragment send them my way. Im just bummed.

Wow... I'd definately take a couple days and drive around from one clinic to another... the Phoenix area is swamped with facilities!

Try out in Glendale, Sun City, and Sun City West has one I know.. and one just before Sun City West as well.. they are literally EVERYWHERE.

(My mom used to live in SCW, and I was emplyed here in VA with FMC, so of course I had to go check out some of these facilities to compare to ours!) ;)

I would think you'd do better if you just walked in, took your chances on the FA being there, and leaving your application... then follow up with a phone call in a few days. Be persistent...... keep calling.. these places are so busy, it's easy to jsut stick the apps in a drawer and forget about them, so do keep up the heat and call them religiously !

Hope you find something soon ! Wish you the best ! :)

Thanks Jnette, Thats what Im going to do on Monday. I was concerned about being too agressive but Im not getting anywere with the calling the recriuter and leaving messages. I going to hit the FMC facilities, wish me luck.

Go get 'em !!!

I've never sent in resumes or applied by phone... I'm a firm believer in face to face and simply walking in. :D

Will keep my fingers crossed for you !!!
