Transitioning to the ER

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I am a new RN that will be starting in the ER next week. I have been an LPN for three years in an Urgent Care and was just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to transition to the ER. Any books, supplies, etc. that would be helpful for me?

Thanks! ;)

Go in with your eyes and ears open and ready to work. Hopefully, you would have a good preceptor, which can show you the good ropes. Learn on the job because everyone learn different. Now, you will have to take several of classes to work in the ED but not all at once, classes such as ACLS and Critical Care class. There maybe more classes, anyway thses classes will help you along. You will be learning different procedures and helping out ED docs. I work in the ED alot, I work in a Resource Pool. The ED is a different and challenging atmosphere. Stay positive and if this what you really want to do you find away for it to work. Good luck and keep us posted.

Emergency & Critical Care - Pocket Guide ACLS Version. Many, many teachers and very experienced RN's recommended this book to me. I bought it, had it in my nurse purse, the first day I actually stuck it in my pocket at work it literally saved a life...that and me doing a little critical thinking before following a doc's order. I keep it close to me every shift now.
