Hello, Right now i attend Lehman College trying to finish up my nursing requirements. Excluding this semester i have one more semester I hopefully will be done and be get a good score on NCLEX. Lately I've been wondering if I should transfer to Hunter because of it's reputation for it's nursing program, but I hear it's really tough. Should I transfer or play it safe? I've heard on rumor of 300 students applying for nursing in Hunter and only 80 getting in.
Help this is my life dream

Hey there! Well, you're only going to take NCLEX after you're done with the nursing program. Since, you're almost done taking your rerequisite courses, you may apply for the nursing program but when is the deadline to turn in the application? Is Lehman a community college or an university? :)
The deadline is March 15th and I have one more semester to go, so I'll have a long wait ahead of me. It's cuny school and so is Hunter
Oh ok that's awesome!!!!! If I were you, I would finish at Lehman first and then transfer to Hunter. I mean, it is totally up to you. What kind of nurse do you want to be?
Does Lehman have a ADN program which is an associate degree in nursing?
Oh thanks I haven't thought of that :). Honestly I'm not sure what to get into yet. I posted. Thread before questioning what my choices were, but I haven't received any helpful responses. Yea, Lehman does have an acd program
Ok I see and you'd better think about it lol! So, Lehman does have an ADN program, cool! What about Hunter, does it have ACD as well? If so, do not transfer Hunter. It doesn't make sense to have two associate degrees in nursing. I would go further and get my BSN (Bachelor Science in Nursing) from a four-year university if I were you.
Well, speaking of nursing field you want to study, do you like kids, study cancer, etc?
I guess that's something I can figure out when shadowing?
Yeah you can do that :)

I am assuming that you mean the NLN exam not the NCLEX.
I also attend Lehman ( just finished doing some reading for APII). If I were you I would apply to other places just to have backup plans. Because realistically unless you prereqs are all above the B+ range the chances to get in are slim. I am not even going to apply to Lehman, I am looking at three private universities that I feel will give me a lot more professional opportunities than a CUNY school.
Not saying it is impossible but Lehman is kind of messed up when it come to the nursing program. Dozens of students take prereqs at Lehman trying to get into the program but at the same time outside applicants can be accepted as well.
The admission game really depends on the overall strength of the applicant pool. From what I know most of those accepted have a GPA above 3.8.
Oh and on another note...you cannot apply to the Hunter program. If you are applying for the traditional generic program ( I assume) they only allow people who have been a matriculated Hunter student for at least one semester to apply to their program.
However, if you are applying to the accelerated second degree program at Hunter I am sorry to tell you that the deadline for the Fall has passed.
If I were you I would apply for the Lehman program but also apply to some private programs as well (ex. LIU, NYU, College of New Rochelle, College of Mt. St. Vincnet) and see what happens.
Best case scenario you graduate from lehman in 2 yr with a BSN.
at the worst you can hopefully get some acceptances some place else and still gradaute in 2 years as a nurse. Yes those schools are expensive but they are generally ( i use that term loosely) with financial aid.
Thank you, yes I did mean NLN. I'm not sure about a private school, I don't have a lot of money to use and honestly I fear loans. B+ is something I can do with a little more effort. I have looked into Hunter and they ask for two psychology classes along with the same prereq's Lehman has. Highly likely I'll take my chance at Lehman, but if not excepted there I'll have to conqour my loan fear as well. Thank so much for your information I have a lot to think about. Please do not hesitate for anymore advice.
