Transfer Credits

So I just finished up my first semester at a California community college. I had an unfortunate personal issue right at the end of the semester which caused me to miss class and in turn, my grades suffered. I was only taking classes that are prerequisites for my schools nursing program's prerequisites. (This last sentence made me giggle lol) These classes aren't required for transfer to a California UC but I was wondering if they will still factor into my GPA when I do transfer? Or will the UC's only count my overall GPA of the required transfer courses? Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Prerequisites for prerequisites?? Do you mean that these are remedial courses? If so, they are not eligible for college credit, and will not count in your GPA. If they are actual for-credit courses, they are now part of your "permanent record" in terms of your cumulative GPA.

Fortunately, there is no standard approach to admission criteria and the way that the admission GPA is calculated. Some programs only use cumulative, while others may only look at pre-requisites. Some schools allow unlimited re-takes and only count the 'best' grade, but others limit re-takes and count everything...... it's a crapshoot. Generally, the more expensive the school, the more liberal their policy - LOL. Take the time to investigate the schools you are interested in.

Best of luck to you in your nursing education.

Find out which courses at your community college are transferable. I had some courses that didn't transfer, and it made a difference in my GPA (I attended a CSU). Speak to a counselor at your school to find out for sure.
