I am going to apply to a ADN program at a local community college next year. At that time I will have my BA in biology from another university.
My question is: do colleges usually accept transfer credits from students who have already gotten a degree with those credits? That is, can I use the general education courses I used to get my BA and transfer those over to get my ADN?
In Minnesota there is a website, MN Transfer, Home Page, that lists which colleges accept what courses from what schools. In my case, everything will transfer over, but I am concerned about this issue of double-dipping with credits.
I know this is a better question to ask the ADN school about, but I thought I would ask all of you first. I'm sure someone has dealt with this before. And if not I have an appointment with an admissions advisor from the ADN school tomorrow so I can ask him then.
This question may seem silly but it has really been getting to me. I'd appreciate any comments! Thanks! :uhoh21:

It depends on the school, but many people who have gone for their ADN after earning a baccalaureate degree in another field had no problems transferring classes to cover their gen eds, etc. Good luck to you!

That made me nervous as well. I have never gone to a CC, but since earning my BS I have actually gone to 3 different universities for BSN and prereqs (Katrina disrupted my plans). I was actually already accepted to an accelerated program in Louisiana after taking only four more classes from my first degree. Here in Florida the prereqs are different and I have to take 5 more classes. However, all three schools happily counted my Tulane classes for everything that they could. I'm sure it's already crossed your mind, but have you looked into accelerated programs in your area? If not for extra prereqs caused by moving, this is actually faster for me than doing an ADN program. Of course double check with the schools you're looking into, but it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!

I had a number of credits from CC's in CA where I am originally from, credits from the college I have returned to for my ASN, and credits from the university where I obtained my BS in Business a couple of years ago. Nothing has ever been questioned anywhere along the line except for a statistics course I took at the university when I was looking at an accelerated program. Since I opted for the ASN, even that wasn't a concern!!
Good luck -- it sure helps a LOT to have those extra courses completed when you're in NS!
After meeting with the health career/admissions advisor at the ADN school, I found out my credits would transfer over whether or not I got a previous degree using those credits.:icon_biggrin:
