Transfer to another state for BSN

Hi everyone,

This might be a silly question.. When I finish the 2 year ADN program here in California, would I be able to transfer to Colorado for BSN? Would they accept the CA course work or would I have to meet their criteria?

Thanks!

Let's take the BSN out of the equation for now. What matters is if you want to move to Colorado to work is that you meet the licensure requirements for CO. NCLEX is a national test; you can take it anywhere it's offered. What matters is the state where you apply for licensure. You can graduate from school in CA but apply for initial licensure in the state of your choosing. Information for applying for licensure in CO can be found on the BON website.

Now, let's get back to that BSN. Many RN-to-BSN programs (if not all of them, which is extremely likely) require one to hold a nursing license in order to attend. Some may also require work experience or at the very least for the applicant/student to be currently working as a nurse. As for courses required, that will depend on the program itself.

Some RN -> BSN will require a license in that state in order to attend, others (especially online) only require an RN license.

Would they accept the CA course work or would I have to meet their criteria?

Thanks!

Search for schools you would consider and then ask them this question.
