So I worked about 14 days ago and today my supervisor called me up and said there was an incident report from pharmacy saying I pull Tramadol out but have no record of me giving it or returning it. I know it has only been 2 weeks but I don't remember a thing. They look further into it and saw that I did give it to the patient. The thing is she has a PRN and schedule Tramadol. I don't know what to think of this as I have been a nurse for almost 10 years and this is the first time this has happen. I'm getting a little worried. I'm not sure if I pulled 2 out and gave 1 and forgot to return the other one. I don't think that was it though. I'm very careful regarding narcotics. I either give them right away or return them if the patient decline the medication.

Why would you remember a specific medication you gave to a patient 2 weeks ago unless there was something unusual that was happening surrounding the med administration when you gave it? Heck I couldn't tell you exactly what meds I administered and when a couple of days ago much less two weeks ago without referring to the EMAR.
Since looking into it further showed you gave the med to the patient I assume that's the end of the matter so trust that the investigation showed that your charting was correct and you gave the med.

You'd think with technology they would be quicker in notifying you. I have a coworker going through this over a medication a few weeks ago that she doesn't remember.
