Time Budgeting.

I am a new grad nurse with my first job in a LTC setting working 2nd shift though I am the only nurse on my hall. I find it soooo hard to go ahead and get meds around when everyone seems to be on Narcs. I know I shouldn't but sometimes I sign them out before I actually give them. Any tips to where I can not do that? I also do no socialize really and my CNAs are good so it's not a matter of babysitting them either.

Never sign a narcotic out until right before you give it. You are still new...sooner or later you'll be able to pick up the pace when you get to know the residents...where they are during med pass, if they regularly take a PRN at a certain time. The med pass is not the be all and end all of your shift.

PS. I do NOT like this new format at all. Just saying
