Thoughts on the Quality of ABSN Program at CSU San Marcos?

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to see if there were any current students or alumni at CSU San Marcos that can speak to their experience there? For alumni, do you feel like they prepared you well for nursing?

Any input would be great! Thanks!

Hello - I graduated from CSUSM ABSN I was in their 27th cohort. I felt fairly well prepared for 'basic' nursing ... as in anything in ambulatory care and Medsurg. However, I did not feel well prepared for acute care skills (ICU/ED). Even though I completed my 'preceptorship' hours in MICU! ... However, I believe strongly that this is the same with MOST programs- you learn a lot on the job. The school is only there to make you know the basics to be a SAFE RN in order to be trained by a preceptor in your first real RN job. You get out whatever you put in ! I had a lot fo great clinical instructors, some not so great... my biggest complaint about the school was lack of organization but I've come to find out many schools are this way.
