4 Those that Passed & Failed

Published

hello all,

just wanted to ask a few questions to help me prepare for the nclex. i graduate in april, but i want 2 start preparing now. i've been using saunders to help me with the nursing school exams and my scores have gone up since i've started using the book.

for those that passed on the 1st try: how long did u prepare for the exam? how were ur exam scores in nursing school?

for those that failed the 1st time: how were ur grades on the nursing school exams? can u immediately sign up to retake the exam?

anyone every fail the nclex & was already working as a gn, what was the outcome with ur job?

thanks in advance & happy holidays :D

If you are doing well in nursing school and practicing your NCLEX questions weekly you shouldn't have a problem with the board exam.

In the state of Virginia, if you're a first time NCLEX test taker, you have 90 days to practice as a GN as long as you are scheduled to take the test within those 90 days. If you take the test and fail, you must immediately stop working, and must wait until you take and pass the exam to work.

thanx 4 the info & motivation! i am not a really good test taker, but the nclex books have helped with my exam score. i am just worrying about remembering the info for peds & ob 6 months after the class.

I've battled tests that require critical thinking skills since I started nursing school. My GPA plummeted but I never failed a class by the grace of God. I finally got a little better my last year. So if you feel you are a bad test taker, i know where you are coming from. I was able to pass the nclex the first time with 77 questions. I studied for 5 weeks. I took a week off right after school was over. then studied 3-6 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. I would do at least 100 questions a day. I only used saunder's and mosby's questions and I also had a kaplan box of medications I'd thumb through. I had boxes of question cards by saunders and mosby so I would carry cards with me when I was working. The only book I had was saunders if I needed to look up something, any more material I would have been overwelmed. Good luck!

i am glad to know that i am not the only one struggling with these critical thinking questions! i see alot of classmates that dont study/ know the material & pass the tests w/ flying colors. i struggled the most last semester, but i too by the grace of god passed. i am glad that there is hope for me to pass on the 1st try. i think i am going to do the same, take a vacay, then study until the test. i have been using saunders this entire semester, hopefully that counts for something. congrats on passing the 1st try!:yeah:

wonderful! You will do great! Also, whenever you schedule it, take the date off the day before the exam and enjoy yourself. Everyone I talked to in my class did this before they took the exam and have been passing. Do not study up until this exam because it is really hard study for this thing. Just relax and do thing totally NON-nclex related. Don't even study before you go to exam site. I even heard the brightest of the bright in my class admit this was a difficult test and you can only do questions and much as you can...you just never know what kind of questions you will get. Best of luck the rest of your schooling!

you have to practice more questions and dont try to memorise the answers.just understand question and answer.i prepared for 3 months and used some online courses and cds.i dont think that ,there is some relation with your nursing school score,in this nclex you have to apply your skills and practical knowledge.all the best for your exam
