Thinking of relocating...

Hi all...

I'm seriously considering a move to AZ when I finish RN school - I am SICK of Michigan winters!!!

I recently got a recruitment flyer from the Yuma Regional Med Center, and thought that it sounded good - except that I know nothing about Yuma - but then I saw the thread below about how Yuma is "hell on earth"

So... I'll ask the experts: Where, in your opinion, is a nice place to live in your warm, sunny state? Somewhere that's nice for a family with young kids... not too crowded, etc? Where the winters are mild but the summers aren't scorchingly hot? And lastly, a great hospital to work at would be nice to know about, too!

Oh yeah... and how bad are the creepy-crawlers down there? I'm talking about scorpions, tarantulas, rattlesnakes... that stuff could be a deal breaker, lol...

you could check out places in AZ to relocate. I lived in Yuma and it was nothing when I first moved there, but they are growing a lot, as the other people said it's SOOOOOOO hot there! But you may really love it, a lot of people from the midwest really like all the heat and no snow? Best of luck to you!

We're Hoosiers- we just got back from a trip to Arizona. Flagstaff was much milder than the Phoenix area. One night it was rainy and cool enough to wear a jacket, even pull on the hood so I'd say mid to low 70s. Nice breeze at the Grand Canyon too, very mild. Next day drove down to Phoenix and it was 100+. If I were moving, I'd choose Flagstaff. Hospital there is the 2nd largest employer, after the university. I wouldn't miss the winters here in Indiana which really are pretty mild, but then I don't want months of 100 degrees where you don't even want to venture out between 9 and 6. We saw few people out where we stayed. So hot you just want to be in the AC.

I've also lived here all my life. I was born in Scottsdale and now we are in the south east valley....Queen Creek. If I was moving here, I'd stick with the east valley....Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek areas are all nice. My brother lives in Flagstaff and it's nice there too, but it's a college and tourist town so you have to keep that in mind.

My input is to check out Prescott and Prescottt Valley it is a little more rural but they have the VA Hospital and a community Hospital the temps are mild sometimes they get a dusting of snow in the winter. I live in Wickenburg and we often go to Prescott to shop and get cool air. Beautiful area and lovely camping and pine trees!!
