I am a new grad RN thinking about moving to Austin and working at University Medical Center Brackenridge. What is a good neighborhood to live in without a terrible commute. I'm 25 and want a place where I can meet people since I would be moving there alone, but not right smack in the middle of college town. Also, I am moving from California so any input about working at Brackenridge would be much appreciated- Good or bad! Thanks!

If you want to PM me with your email address, I can forward it to my cousin. Him and his wife live in Austin. I think he was born in 1985 or so, so they would be close in age to you and might help you meet people.

The Far West area is great. Only about a 15-20 minute commute to the hospital, a nice mix of apartments and homes. I lived in several parts of the city during college, and that neighborhood was always my favorite. Good luck! I think you'll love Austin. :)

At least coming from Cali the cost of living in Austin won't cause too much shock. I agree that you should stick to the western areas. I have in-laws who live in the eastern half of the city and nothing near them has impressed me much.
