The strangest write up ever.

I was just written up for something that happened to a pt. while another nurse was taking care of that pt. I was not responsible for that pt in the few days leading up to the incident or even a few days after. I was in no way involved or at fault. There were also some things in the write up that were very strange and based on hearsay and perspective. Im not sure what to think. I am looking for a new job. I don't know if I can find one fast enough. This is my first write up ever. I got four days or orientation and have only worked eight days on my own at this place. Im surprised they wrote me up instead of just talking to me. Do write ups get sent to the BRN?

    Managers are responsible for following up with every incident report/write-up they receive whether they prove to be true or false. I have been written up for a transfusion reaction in which the blood bank wasn't notified however I didn't have the patient or give the blood. I explained that to my manager and she understood. I think you should take these concerns to your manager. They should be able to see you never cared for that patient. If that's the only reason you are considering leaving, I would reconsider. You aren't going to go your whole nursing career without getting written up, although some units are worse than others. If BRN means Board of Nursing the answer is no. Where I work these write ups don't even go into your file for the hospital unless it was something like a serious med error.

    Well, it was my manager who wrote me up. She also included a full page of things that were not true such as "wrongfully accusing other nurses of misconduct" because I asked questions that make people uncomfortable. Not because I was trying to blame anyone..but because I noticed discrepancies. I never said it was any one person. It was a strange write up. It also included a warning that if I received one more write up I would be subject to termination. :(

    Sounds like a bad situation but your license is safe. I would be looking for a better job where they'll appreciate you.
