The process

Okay, this might be dumb. I have an associates in General Ed with a minor in Psychology. I have all my classes done except actually nursing classes. I am a military spouse so staying in one spot long enough to apply for a school and stay at that school has been difficult.

My plan of action as of now.

I move to Virgina in June 2016

Virginia requires chemistry before you can even apply, so I will be taking chemistry at my current school in the spring. As long as chem does not kill my GPA (I've been terrified of this class for some reason) then I will apply for a Fall Term at either Thomas Nelson Community College or Tidewater Community College. Upon successful graduation and getting my license I have thought about do L&D for a few years and then getting my masters to become a CNM at Shenandoah University.

I am currently a doula and love birth work.

Does this sound about right?

Specializes in OB.

That sounds like a very reasonable plan. I will caution you, however, that it can be very difficult to get an L&D nursing job as a new grad, depending on the needs of your area. Be open to working in other areas, as any nursing experience will enrich you in some way.

Specializes in Eventually Midwifery.

Do you know how long you will be stationed in VA? I looked into Shenandoah U a while back and, despite being an "online' program, they require a LOT of on campus visits. Like a couple times a week for certain classes. Too bad, for me anyway, I really like how their program is structured and their students have the opportunity to visit the Farm where Ina May works!

My husband is retiring so hopefully forever! I went to the Farm in TN in 2013. Wonderful experience. It was the midwifery assistant course, way out of the scope of practice for doulas, but after I met her in Germany I had to have the Farm experience.
