The letter......Spring 07

My name is Diamond. I was just glancing over your forum and I would like to know , what exactly does a points system consist of ? Would that be the pre requisties classes?

At my CC, it consists of: overall GPA, required course (core) GPA, NET test scores, In district status, points for A&P 1 & 2, and Micro GPA, current enrollment at the CC. These are all added up to give you your points. Then they compile the list, have a meeting to hashout the ties and whatnot, then send out the letters. Not all schools go by a point system, or the same type so check at your school to see what they include. (the local BSN college point system is slightly different than ours)

You need to check with the specific program you are interested in b/c they all have different requirements and/or points systems, but here is an example of what my school requires:

High School Diploma: 3.0 GPA, Chemistry, Biology, Algebra

OR college level equivalent coursework.

plus points given for the following:

-previous college degree

-community service

-previous healthcare experience

-co-req courses completed w/ C+ or better:

A&P I & II, Micro, ENG comp 1+2, sociology, psychology, dev. psychology

(with extra points given for higher letter grade earned)

My class, beginning Jan 2007, was the last class admitted to the program before the point system was implemented. I had met all the above criteria, with the exception of previous health care experience.

I frequent this board and love the advice and support. I want to get more involved with posting. I got my letter today. I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not too surprised as I was told in my interview "see you in January" but I have to say, I am a little freaked. I guess it's because I feel like I have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up (I'm 36) and that dream is now going to become reality. Maybe overwhelmed is a little better emotion. Anyone else have that feeling. Good luck to those still waiting.

I feel the exact same way. I told my husband that when my letter came I felt really relieved, but now I am terrified. I said the same thing about finally figuring out what I wanted to do when I grew up and now it is starting and it a little overwhelming. Like my life is about to totally change(in a good way) but still change is hard. I am scared about everything: will I be able to get through this, will I(we) survive financially, am I going to be a good nurse? I am also so excited, I feel blessed that I have this opportunity. Last year I turned my life upside down in order to go back to school. I quite my job and took out a ton of student loans in order to help support my family while I was in school. I put all my eggs in one basket and banked on getting into nursing school. So far everything is going as planned(except one little hiccup in the application period that added a semester onto my time in school), and I am so thrilled it is all working out.

Oh wow...it all sounds so familiar Amber & Nurturing. And, get this...I'm 52! I also turned my life upside down recently. My midlife crisis/transition was all about finding myself again. I too am so excited & nervous. Pouring that energy into pounding out A's for all my classes. I never, ever have been a straight A student in my life! I love school...unimaginable! I've been told that I'm all but a sure bet for the "letter" NLT the end of March for nursing school set to begin Fall '07. That means that I'll get my RN when I'm 55! At this point I'm even considering the BSN, although will have to decide if it's worth pursuing since we live in a rural area. Don't you just love it when dreams come true?

Congrats To Everyone!!! I Got In To Macon State For The Spring 07. I Feel Like Shouting I Did It!!

Hey everyone, I started this post and wanted to update, I was placed on the alternate list. But I called admissions and my rep told me about an Earn As You Learn program with a local hospital where they pay for your school and books but need to commit for 2 years. Well, I interviewed the next day and as of right now, I start 1/8/07, I can't wait. I've gotten all my vaccinations, physicals, tests, supplies in order and now it is a waiting (and reading in advance as much as possible in my med surg book) game. Congrats to all.
