I just want to say thank you to all the PCA's who care about their job and go above and beyond. Last night we were very understaffed and I had 8 patients and was in charge and 2 pool nurses were working. The patients are VERY high acuity and I had 2 that needed sitters and did not have them. The PCA who was working came in and helped me out without being asked, and this made it a lot easier to do my job and do it right. This also leads to better outcomes for the patients. I know our jobs are tough but we all need to work together. I just want to thank all the PCA's who give a d**!!!

Ditto what you said. I especially think of this after reading thread on how CNAs took pictures of each other posing with a dead body on their cell phones. This shows that not all are this deviant and they deserve praise!

I have to agree with you. For all the bad press that aides get, especially in LTC, most of them bust their butts doing their job, and the best ones are invaluable. Smart CNAs have saved many a patient's life with their sharp observations, allowing me to go in and catch a life-threatening condition early on before it could even cause permanent damage. I was swamped on a daily basis and certainly couldn't to it all. Great CNAs truly are eyes and ears for us harried nurses.
And I was a CNA myself for a long time, and I still remember how challenging it could be, especially when you had a lot of patients that were not feeling very well.

I worked as a CNA the entire 2 years of NS...and it was hard. But I do NOT forget where I came from, and I help patients to the bathroom, set them up for meals, feed em if I can, etc....I will NEVER be above tech work, but it depends on what else I need to do at the moment. a big thanks to the techs that matter....
