Texas Instruments TI-85

Just a heads up---some nursing schools do NOT allow the use of calculators in figuring drug calculations. So, be sure to check w/your school regarding this.

I used a TI-83 graphing calculator in my statistics class for graphing and statistics. I've been a ER nurse for 11 years and am now an Acute Psych nurse, and I've never needed a calculator. I don't think you'll need one in school, or be allowed either. I agree you should check before you invest in one because those are very expensive calculators.

According to our instructor, they are allowing calculators on the NCLEX. So they are allowing us to use them during our drug calculations. However, nothing was said as to make and model. I have a TI-85 from my previous working with Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics. I figured why go out and buy another calculator if I have one - I used it on a few in class assignments, and none of the instructors said anything. They saw it and made comments about how it looked like a phone.

I am not in school that allows PDAs with things like Skyscape installed. But they seem to be ok with this, because it is a calculator. I was just wondering if anyone out there new of places where I could get programs that were available for medical conversions and stuff. I just don't want to have to sit through my "programming" days all over again. It was such a pain to just program the stuff for the classes that I took before getting into nursing....

Any thoughts???

Ditto. Mine cost over $100, and that was when I was in highschool. The math you do in nursing school doesn't require that high tech little computer. You really need to be able to do those without it.
