We have a tech on the floor that I work on as a tech myself. This tech has real issues I guess you could say. She gets very short with everyone and even tries bossing the nurses around. She's done it with me and I've seen her do it with nurses, especially new nurses.
The reason I'm brining this up is because I really want to work on this floor once I graduate school but the only thing that is holding me back is this particular tech. This tech is not a team player. The worst thing is that she has issues with taking orders from other people, especially if they are younger than she is which encompasses the majority of the floor.
Am I in a position to say something to management about this or should I just keep my mouth shut?
This tech has gotten short with me and tried to boss me around like she does the nurses and I won't put up with it. I've put her back in her place several times and told her that I don't like her attitude. This person is also a gossip and I won't have anything to do with it. She'll come to me and try to gossip and say "so and so did this" and I won't respond. I have better things to do with my time than to get involved in that destructive type talk. She even gossiped about me once when I was around. She didn't realize that I was there. When I heard my name I asked her what was going on and she said "Oh nothing". I told her that if she's going to mention my name, especially in front of me to my peers and co-workers, that she should address it with me rather than others. She walked away and I haven't heard anything from her since.
Just looking for some advice from those of you who have worked with techs like this.
Is it worth the headache to work on the floor I want to? I want to work here because the nurses have been absolutely wonderful. They have taught me so much and I'm so grateful for each and every one of them. Even if they didn't have a moment when I had a question (or I started to ask a question at a bad time which I did a lot when I first started. I've since learned what is a good time and what isn't), I could always go back with them when they weren't busy and they would answer it for me in more detail that I expected. There's just a mutual respect between the nurses and I and sometimes I feel like I've already been accepted as a nurse to them and not "just a tech". I've had several nurses tell me that they think I'll make a good nurse when I graduate. I just feel at home on this floor. Plus management has been so good to me as well. I've been going through some tough times and I may need to go part time for benefits. I went in and talked to my manager and I didn't have to beg or anything, she said up front "Don't worry, we'll take care of you. Just let me know if/when you need to go part time. It will be no problem." I'm PRN right now.
It's just this one tech...................:trout: That's the only downside and I know, from hearing stories on here and from talking to the nurses on the floor, that a tech can make or break your day.

You sound like you could hold your own and you sound like you behave in a professional manner.Good for you.I wouldnt worry about working with her,wouldnt you be able to write her up for insubordination???( After you graduate)What about the other nurses?Couldnt they write her up??Good luck I believe youll be a good nurse!!

You can't let one person change your career plan. If you want to work on this floor then do it. Chances are there is someone just like her on every other floor in the hospital. Hold your own and you will be fine.

I say go for it. At least you have the advantage of knowing what you are dealing with. If I have to choose between positive nurses and a negative tech, or negative nurses and a positve tech, I am going with the nurses every time. Best of luck to you.
