Teas V Study Methods

Nursing Students TEAS

I am getting ready to study so I can take the TEAS. I have not taken a standardized test like this since 2001. I am concerned about getting a score above 80% and I'd really like to do much better than that. However, all the people I know that have taken it have scored around 69 or so. I know I am a bit more solid on what I know than they are from what I gather from classes with them.

I would like to know what your study methods are to study for the TEAS. I am thinking I will block a month off and study every day after work and so many hours on Saturday and Sunday. I plan to take my Anatomy Coloring book to work and work on parts of the body and studying the information. I have three Teas V books. I have a NET book. I have a Hesi book. I'm studying for different exams but the Teas V is the most important because the RN is the end goal.

How did you study? What books are you using? Did you go to an area other than your homes to study? If you took the exam and didn't like your score did you take the exam again?

I just took mine and I got an 85%.

I used the ATI manual and the only thing that it was helpful for was the sample material and practice tests. On the other hand it does not really teach the material, except inform you of the basic topics that may be addressed.

In order to get a more in depth understanding of the topics, I used my old text books and notes.

Using the coloring book is fine, but I found that the A&P questions were more on the physiology end of things. For example, they will ask about function but not necessarily location of parts.

I had to review chemistry and physics, because its been a while. I took chemistry 10 years ago, and had my only physics experience in high school which was 13 years ago. But both subjects are only covered at a pretty basic level in the TEAS V. I studied it for like 1 day, because that's all the time I had, I ended with an 88% on science.

The most challenging part of the test was English and Reading. These just aren't my strongest subjects. I feel like I underestimated its difficulty. Some questions were very tricky. I didn't realize that an adjective could be an entire phrase. And there's so many ways to write a sentence, so my sentence fluency is not good. I advise to practice as many questions as you can.

Math was easy. It's straight forward and all you really need is just practice. I got a 100%.

I used khanacademy to review things. Quizlet was useless for me, the flash cards online were too easy. I also downloaded an app for $10 which was a waste. The actual TEAS V test questions are much trickier. ATI provides the best practice questions IMO.
