TEAS Test

Relax! Okay, well, I can't really say relax since I didn't relax myself until that final grade showed up after the exam; however, studying so early is going to work in your favor. For the english portion of the test, I can't really help you. I made an 90% on that part, and that was good enough for me since I struggle with english. For the science portion... I made a 100% on the entire science and I can help you out a bit without giving any hints as to what was on the test...

- READ THE QUESTION TWICE! There were so many questions that tricked me on the exam, you think it's the most obvious answer but it isn't.

- Know terminology like heterozygous, homozygous, diploid, haploid, etc. and the question will fall into place. There's typically 2 trick answers and then two possible answers. If you can get rid of the trick answers you have a 50/50 chance

- KNOW WORD ROOTS! Trust me on this, it helps to know what poly-, di-, mono-, stuff like that means. Not just the word roots given in the book. Maybe just go on Quizlet and find some prefix & suffix flashcards that someone has made to help you out.

- The official TEAS review book covered most topics for the science portion of the test

Taking the TEAS is very nerve wracking, but if you study good, you'll do great. I used the TEAS V study guide and assessment tests. On ATI testing's website you can purchase assessment tests. It allows you to practice taking the test and then gives you feedback as to what you need to polish up on. If you have the study guide, the feedback will tell you exactly what pages you need to study to improve your score. Good luck!!

I am a terrible test taker and always have been but when getting ready there are a few things that I did that really helped.

1) I hope you have taken biology and if you're lucky microbiology. Most of the science portion is bio. Focus on cell function and processes. Anatomy is a pre-req for most nursing programs if not all and it is important to review all the systems.

2) If you passed high school all the english parts are relatively easy and you wont have a problem.

3) For me, math was the most difficult since I had not taken a math course since junior year of high school. Re-teach yourself everything particularly basic algebra. (I really needed to learn long division... again XD)

4) Take practice tests online! These questions are so similar to the real test; you will get a great feel for what questions there will be and where you need to work.

Now when you're taking the test there is one piece of advice I have. Take all the time you have. Use every second, and don't rush. The questions are tricky and you can easily miss important information. Like mentioned above: read the question twice.
