Hello,I am planning on taking the TEAS in march during spring break...And I am kind of lost. I don't know which manual I should buy. I heard that it is not as hard as it was since they took off the science portion.I think I would order the book from the ATI website but not sure(so many book to buy this is ridiculous). I still need to evaluate my high school diploma! But I have apply for fall 2010!!!! I do not live near the mec campus so I won't be able to do study groups and I think I won't have time to do so.
I took the TEAS test at NVCC this past May. I only used the TEAS Pre-Test Study Manual to prepare beforehand and did very well. The study guide is available at any NVCC bookstore (for around $55 I think). You can also purchase it from independent sellers at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Academic-Skills-Study-Manual/dp/1933107006). I haven't heard anything about the science portion of the test getting tossed out. In fact, I would be pretty surprised if it was, since the purpose of the test is to determine our potential for success in a science-based health care program.
If you can, I would recommend completing all prerequisites of the program you're applying to before taking the TEAS. The admissions committee likes to see high scores :) Are you applying to the traditional nursing program? If so, the application deadline for Fall 2010 entry isn't until the end of May. Maybe you could hold off on taking the TEAS until May so that you have an extra 2 months of preparation time

if that doesnt work, lol goto NVCC.edu, then in the search box search for TEAS,and it should be one of the first results! And according to that, as of Sep 2009, there is NO science portion! WOW! Nice to see NVCC continues to lower their standards, lol Keep in mind, that if u fail a section, I belive you have to the whole test over again and one has to wait 30 days to rewrite! So you don't want to wait to the last minute to do it, in case you have to re-test!! NVCC also offers study classes for it
Thanks guys:) Not sure about taking the whole test if you missed one part...A classmate of mine said she has to retake the english I will ask her...As for he prereq I am doing my last 2 this semester. I am going to try to apply for fall 2010 and I rather try in spring for the teas because if I don't get it I still have more than 30 days to retake it:)
NVCC has changed their testing a few times. fe yrs ago it was the TEAS. If ya failed 1 section, you only had to re-do that section. then it changed to if ya failed one section, you had to redo ALL the sections. Then they went to HESI and now they are back to TEAS with what appears to be no science and looking at that link, 1 only has to re-do the section you fail. For the most part the program is fine. There are some things that realy irked me--such as people on the ONLINE program go to write exams at HOME!!! (except for midterm, med-math exam and final exam)!! You can't tel me people were not cheating! Sure it is timed, big deal. Too easy to flag pages in ur book! And i had plenty of time left over in class, so easy to pace 1 self!! then there was 1 med-math exam where a LOT of people at the MEC campus failed it! BUT there was a high pass rate at the Arlington campus! Guess what, they threw it out! said the exam had been compromised! BULL! They just didn't want a whole bunch failing as 1 only gets 1 rewrite!! thats my opinion anyways, lol
I feel you honestly the cheating thing is driving me nuts!!!!!! I'll do the online one itf I am garantee to get take home tests!!!!!
Hey Flames by the way I am about to evaluate my high school diploma and use the same company as you. Did you fax everything or you sent it? Did you get extra copies?
Been awhile now, I belive I mailed them http://www.educationinternational.org/procedure.htm) the information. As well i think I had to pay a bit extra $$ as i wanted a copy for myself---As they sent a copy directly to the school. I know I had my copy before the check was cashed!! They were great! But that was then, lol

Hi,
I took the TEAS test at NVCC in early January. I was really afraid of the math, too. I took a pretest in December and scored a 62% which had me really worried. I borrowed the ATI TEAS guide from the library and studied the practice questions. I essentially learned how to do each type of math problem in the book and then took the practice tests. When I took the TEAS after a couple weeks of studying I scored 99%. I think the ATI guide is a huge help and I didn't see any math on the test that wasn't explained in workbook.
Hope this helps! And good luck to you :)

Thanks very much Kris i feel at bit at ease now!
