I am curious if any School Nurses belong to their local Teacher's Union? The one in my area has a category for support professionals and encourage nurses to join. I have not done it yet and probably will not, because I might have to get out of school nursing after this year (just moved and the drive is killing me, and few opportunities in rural districts near my home). I was just wondering if anyone else out there joined and if so have you ever used their resources?

I am in the teachers' union. I am on their pay scale and receive their benefits.
We are on the pay same scale and bennies also, but in our district we have to opt into the union and agree for the union dues to be taken out of our check. Are you automatically in the union when you hire on, or do you have to opt in?

Same here as with Purple. I am at a new school and in the process of joining the Teacher's Union. I will have dues deducted each pay period from my check. I was given a choice on whether I wanted to join, it was not mandatory.
NO, we don't have to join, but we have to pay 85% of the dues even if we opt out, so you might as well join.
